Our Motivation

Sport climbing is inspiring. But accidents happen—even in climbing gyms.
The number one cause of accidents is human error:

Carelessness, insufficient mastery of the belay device, underestimating risks, blackouts. By following a few simple rules, dangerous ground falls can be reliably prevented.

 

Our Strategy

The Sicher Klettern (Safe Climbing) Tour is another initiative by the Alpenverein to prevent accidents in climbing sports. Sport climbing trainers and mountain guides from the Alpenverein’s national training team are touring Austria’s climbing gyms. These experts will be your personal coaches. They’ll help you improve your belaying technique in sport climbing and practice the essential safety standards. Are you familiar with your belay device? Can you catch an unexpected fall? We want to convince you that climbing is a sport that requires a professional approach to risk. And we want to encourage you to set an example in your circle of friends and share your knowledge.
 

Program

Workshop (Registration required!) Proper partner belaying, fall training, partner check at 2:00 PM
Equipment Test Device testing, SicherSichern check, try out different belay devices, catch a fall in the fall simulator at 5:30 PM

Safety Coaching Safety coaching, visitors to the climbing gym will receive feedback on their personal belaying technique.
